The department was established in1945. Initially the department was a part of the Department of Civics which was a combination of Economics and Political Science. Prof. Uma Kanta Sarma was the founder HOD. Major course was introduced in 1962. Political Science being one of the most sought after subjects at the degree level, the department attempts to provide resourceful and dedicated services to the young learners.Present faculty of the department include:
