DEPARTMENT OF SANSKRIT
The Department of Sanskrit was established in 1945 and the Major (Honours) Course was introduced in 1971. The founder HoD of the department was Pt. Khitish Chandra Paul. Pt. Lakshi Kanta Tripathi was also with him from the inception of the department who helped in designing the Logo of the College with Upanisadic statement विद्यया विन्दतेSमृतम् i.e., scholarship offers eternity. Some of the veteran Sanskrit scholars like Prof. Mukunda Madhav Sharma, Pt. Bhagawan Goswami and Pt. Jamini Kanta Sarma etc. graced the department. The department has a very consistent record of brilliant result. The student of this department clinched the laurel of Best Graduate of Gauhati University for three times. viz. Dipak Kr. Sharma, Best Graduate-1980, Jonali Devi, Best Graduate-2000, Shikhamoni Bhattacharyya, Best Graduate-2001.

Activities of the Department: Apart from regular classes, the Department of Sanskrit does several activities for all round development of the teachers and students. Some of them are listed below-
Add-on Course: The Department offers Add-on Courses for the interested students of the college. This is of interdisciplinary nature. On successful completion of the course, students are awarded certificates.
Sessional Test / Class Test / Unit Test / Group Discussion / Seminar Presentation / Quiz etc.: All these activities are done among the students from time to time.
Spoken Sanskrit Camp: The Department organises spoken Sanskrit Camp for developing Speaking skill of the students.
Field Visit / Industrial Visit / Educational Tour: The Department arranges educational tour regularly with the help of students.
Academic Lecture: Academic Lecture is arranged on curricula inviting heavy weight resource person from significant academia .
Guardian Meet: Guardian Meets are regularly arranged in the Department.
Mahamohopadhyaya Dhiresvaracharyya Memorial Award- An award was given in the year 2018 and 2019 to eminent Sanskrit Scholars of Assam by the Department in the name of Mahamohopadhyaya Dhiresvaracharyya, a doyen of Sanskrit prosodists, who hails from Athgharia of Nalbari district.
Wall-Magazine: An Wall Magazine has been published regularly contributed by the students of Sanskrit Department once in a year or sometimes twice in a year for certain special occasion.
Seminar Library: There is a Seminar Library in the Department, which provides books for the departmental students. Presently, there are 355 Books including Journal and periodicals at its disposal.
