Nalbari College Teachers Unit (NCTU) is the representative body of all the teachers of Nalbari College, Nalbari. The Unit is affiliated to Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA), an organisation of college teachers of Assam, the second largest college teachers’ organisation in India. The Association was founded in 1949 at its inaugural Nowgong College Conference with 40 college teachers serving in 14 non-government colleges, keeping in view the main objective of contributing to improving the condition of higher education in Assam. NCTU follows the Constitution of ACTA, which was adopted in 1961 at the Jorhat Conference, sets a number of aims and objectives for the Association. Contributing to the all-round development of education of the students, in general, and safeguarding the interest of the teachers and improving the service condition and status of the college teachers are some of the main objectives of the Association. Moreover, it also looks after the overall development of the students besides enhancing their academic abilities. NCTU organises different seminars, workshops and various extracurricular activities to provide exposure and develop the skills of the students. Activities of the NCTU is not limited to the student’s community of Nalbari College only, but also expands to the society as well. The Unit is also working to improve and sustain the environment by engaging in the plantation drive from time to time. NCTU stands by the needy when necessary. It organises flood relief camps, blood donation camps, health check-up camps within and outside the campus as well. As a socially responsible organization NCTU has collaborated with different other organizations at different point of time and has helped them financially for arranging different programmes as well. In this regard mention should made of our community involvement in providing annual financial aid to Bihu Celebration Committee of College Chowk and PNC Drama organizing committee of Nalbari. At present, ACTA has the following organisational structure: One President. One vice President. One Secretary Two Assistant Secretaries Thirteen Executive members and Two auditors. All the office bearers are selected by the teachers themselves for the period of one year in the Annual General Meeting of the NCTU which is generally held in the month of September every year.
