Department of Assamese
Nalbari College, Nalbari

The cherished dream of the people of Nalbari for an institution of higher learning was finally fulfilled when on 4th July, 1945 Nalbari College was founded, more than two years before our Country got independence in 1947.
The Department of Assamese has made a distinctive mark as a Major Department in the institution by catering to the needs of the students. Assamese as a MIL subject was introduced in the year 1945 in Pre University and B.A classes. In 1986 Elective Assamese was introduced as an elective subject. In 1962 Assamese was introduced as a Honours subject.
The introduction of P.G class in the year 1986 has been a landmark in the glorious history of the college. P.G classes in the Department were regularized in 1993 when it received affiliation from Gauhati University. Keeping pace with the innovation technique of teaching the semester system was introduced in the year 2001 with seat capacity of 30 students. In the year 2001 with seat capacity of 30 students. In the year 2016 seat capacity of P.G classes was increased to 50. Since then the department has been functioning smoothly having to its credit a commendable result in P.G. level.
